Randy Brown Architects

Moments in Architecture 1 from Randy Brown Architects on Vimeo.

Randy Brown Architects

We commend Randy Brown Architects as they continue to push architectural boundaries. Each project has a clear vision and strong presence. Taking envoironments and looking at them from the eye of an artist is equally as commendable. The spatial effects are translucent, in doing so, there is fluid momentum.

Age of Stupid

Clip - War for Resources

Clip - Contract & Coverage of Resources

Age of Stupid (motion picture) takes REAL clips of news, media and documentary, then juxtaposes it with a fictional post-apocalyptic setting.  Though the clips above touch on issues, mainly, concerning oil and energy resources, the film itself illustrates an array of global world issues.

Whatever your stance or personal reactions are to the following clips, Age of Stupid deserves recognition and commentary. Bringing awareness and attention to global conditions is a step in the right direction. Knowledge is part of the tipping point, but change won’t happen until we all take responsibility and action.

SKATEISTAN

SKATEISTAN: TO LIVE AND SKATE KABUL from Diesel New Voices on Vimeo.

Architecture For Humanity Post

Peace… CAN YOU IMAGINE IT? What if we found signs of peace in something so unexpected as skateboarding.

We remember a day in our own country when skateboarders and roller bladers were societies outcasts. Times have a way of repeating itself and it has the ability to educate. Young Afgans in this short film find solace on a skateboard. They indulge us with their thoughts and deepest emotions. It’s remarkable how something so simple can plant the seed for change. Just the slightest improvement in ones perspective can truthfully change the world.

Watch the video!!! We guarantee during it you’ll see your son, daughter, brother, sister and friend through a strangers eyes. The world is longing - weeping for signs of peace and equality for all. It’s unimaginable and inexcusable in this day of age the disconnect of humanity. We all fall victim to our own consumption of thought, disguised by closed doors and blinded by media. Salvation is in each of us, we can make a difference. We can change the world!

ONE VOICE!

Infinite Space - Architecture of John Lautner

What is so wonderful about the film, “INFINITE SPACE”, in celebration of specifically John Lautner’s architecture, is the appreciation for silence. In so many cases the complexity of architecture requires that, art like, attention where the viewer is asked to observe critically. Only in this moment is architecture achieved it’s true palpable vision.

What is special about so many of the documented site’s are their public recognition. Modernism and architecture in general continues to play an instrumental role in the movie business and Lautner’s architecture is no exception.

Mini Documentary: GARBAGE

This mini documentary is just under 20 minutes and a little dated, but the principles remain as fundamental today as ever before. It reveals the world of garbage, waste and recycling in a simplistic way that we can easily overlook.

I recommend reading Cradle to Cradle by, Mr. William McDonough & Mr. Michael Braungart, for a modern perspective in regards to similiar issues. With little controversy surrounding our wasteful problems, Mr. McDonough is a pioneer and a visionary in the fight against real world problems. This read unveils the corporate lies and human naiveness that encompasses our slow suicidal conditions.

Silent Spring by Rachel Carson [1962] was referenced in the documentary. It deserves credit for being the first book to raise social awareness for related issues and leading to our now much celebrated, Earth Day.

Objectified

OBJECTIFIED WEBSITE

Regardless of your background the documentary film, Objectified, by Gary Hustwit reaches all audiences. His level of design knowledge and the beautiful attention to detail creates a stunning motion picture.

In addition to the minimalist quality there is a higher standard of significant information revealed. The film unveils the mysteries of production and design processes. There is an acute attention to consumers responsibilities and there repercussions on a global scale.

It’s unfortunate that these types of documentaries don’t get the mass recognition that they deserve. The cause and effects from this and other documentaries like this are insurmountable. Without them our society would be less privileged and less focussed on a better future.
